Caring for America FAQs
What are Caring for America hours? Caring for America (CFA) is the community service program for Republican Women. We want to always be giving back in our communities, and this program helps us keep track of what we do. What counts for Caring for America? Every volunteer project that is not 1) political in nature or 2) done as a regular activity through your church. Things like tutoring, mentoring students, volunteering at places like the Ronald McDonald House, soup kitchens, food banks, etc., judging school science fairs, etc. If you donate items, the time spent collecting and organizing the items counts! What doesn't count for Caring for America? Time spent campaigning for candidates or doing club or party service do not count. Those hours are what we call "Campaign Activities" hours, and those are reported separately to our Campaign Activities chairman, Carolyn Isbell (disbell@austin.rr.com). You also may not count monetary donations as hours. Finally, if you volunteer for church community service programs, those do not count for Caring for America or Campaign Activities (though we are very happy you do them!). Why do we report these hours? Our club is known for our volunteer spirit, and we want to make sure that we are helping to contribute to that greater number. In addition, there's a bit of competitive spirit - there are awards through TFRW and NFRW for greatest number of hours reported, both for the club and individuals. Okay, great. Now how do I report my hours to you? Every quarter, we collect the hours for those months and turn them over to the Federation. But first we need you to report them! If you don't know for certain, estimate. We all spend at least an hour a month on community service, when you add everything up, and it may be more than that. |
CAMPAIGN FAQs
What are Campaign Activities hours? Campaign activities are all the things you do to support the Republican Party, Republican candidates, our club or the Federation, issues that matter to you, etc. Campaign Activities Hours are the hours you spend on these things. What counts as a Campaign Activity? Oh, tons of things! Your drive time to and from meetings, time spent on email or Facebook that is political in nature, block walking and phone banking for candidates, attending county party meetings, participating in conventions, taking training classes on policy and activism, hosting Meet and Greet events, time preparing for and attending fundraisers, and many more activities all count. (Refer to the club's membership directory for more ideas.) What doesn't count as a Campaign Activity? Community service that is not political in nature doesn't count. Those hours are what we call "Caring for America" hours, and those are reported separately. You also may not count time at a regular meeting of the club or time spent supporting any non-Republican candidates for public office. Why do we report these hours? The Texas Federation of Republican Women, of which we are a member club, contributed over 2 million hours of campaign activity in 2020-2021. Hours are reported to our state legislators by the TFRW President so they are aware of the effort and time spent by club members. This is a HUGE accomplishment, and we were able to quantify that because club members turned in their hours. Our club is known for our volunteer spirit, and we want to make sure that we are helping to contribute to that greater number. In addition, there's a bit of competitive spirit - there are awards for greatest number of hours reported, both for the club and individuals. Okay, great. Now how do I report my hours to you?
